Dale Usher and Brian Webb from Usher, Inc. recently spent time with upper-level electricity students at the Mayfield/Graves County Area Technology Center (ATC) as part of the Power in Partnership workforce development program.

Usher and Webb discussed the significance of the electrical trade and predicted a surge in electrical jobs in the area.

Power in Partnership, a program for high school students that brings professionals to the classroom, is coordinated by Graves County Economic Development (GCED) in partnership with Mayfield/Graves ATC.

“Visiting the electrical class at the Mayfield/Graves County Area Technology Center was a full‑circle moment for me because this is the very room where I got my start in the electrical industry,” said Usher, President of Usher, Inc.

“It was inspiring to talk with students about their plans after graduation,” he added. “I encouraged them to look closely at the opportunities ahead, including the IBEW apprenticeship and the major construction projects coming to West Paducah. With two uranium-enrichment facilities on the way, these students are stepping into a moment that can shape their futures. If they take advantage of the training available, they can build strong careers right here at home.”

Usher Inc. is Mayfield's premier authorized generator dealer for Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, and Generac, and is Western Kentucky's definitive authority on backup power solutions. Committed to protecting homes, businesses, and critical facilities from the financial and safety risks of power outages, Usher has earned recognition as one of the top 1% of generator professionals for technical mastery, customer satisfaction, and commitment to excellence.

“Dale got his start in the ATC's electricity program, and his success is a great example for the students,” said ATC Principal Josh Heisner. “We thank him for always taking time to invest in our kids and for giving several students the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working in a co-op role at Usher, Inc. while they were finishing school.”

“We are grateful to Usher, Inc. for their support of the Power in Partnership program,” said GCED President Jason Lemle. “Dale brings enormous experience to the classroom and demonstrates the value of helping build a strong local workforce that, in turn, will follow his example and invest in our community.”

The ATC’s electrical technology program is designed to help prepare students for entry-level electrician positions in industry and the building trades. Students participate in layout, assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical circuits, apparatus, and residential wiring activities. Training involves electrical theory and electrical codes currently used in industry.

The ATC is located on the Mayfield High School campus and educates students from Mayfield Independent Schools, Graves County High School, and Carlisle County High School.
